US President Donald Trump has claimed that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an "energy ceasefire," declaring that it is effective immediately. No specific details regarding the terms of the pact were provided. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv is prepared to support the ceasefire if Russia does the same, but noted that he is awaiting further details from Washington.
There has been no official response from Moscow regarding the alleged agreement. Following Trump's announcement, Zelenskyy reported that Russia struck power facilities in Kyiv and the Kharkiv region, stating these attacks occurred after the US president's statement.
The announcement follows the administration's controversial deal to import Russian diesel to lower domestic fuel prices ahead of US midterm elections. The deal has drawn sharp criticism from lawmakers in both US parties and the Ukrainian government. Trump has previously pressured Ukraine to cease strikes on Russian oil infrastructure to ensure that Russia can fulfill its diesel supply commitments to the global market.
